Wakening to quite a backyard view this morning. We aren't sure if these are 2 female or 1 fe and 1 male. Whatever they are they were protecting their babes.
Out for a walk around the pond and now it's time to go check out the neighbor's moo moos
Pretty cute how a little girl can come out to the farm and take her shirt off like her brother.
bye bye
My first pull of 2010 was in Lewistown Missouri. Rick got first in his class. I don't go to all of the pulls anymore but like to make it to at least a couple a year. The rain made him have a less busy season this year. The John Deere is Harris Steenhoek from Leighton.
Various times spent on the pond
Sweet corn season mnmnmn good!
Cadynce and Payton got in on the sweetcorn too this year
We took the boys to a ICubs game, had front row seats right by home plate, thanks to Uncle Josh!
Payton, Cadynce and Lake went to the tractor pull in Centerville at their county fair. We had the privilege of going in the barns on a VERY VERY hot evening. We had a great time. We came home and showered to get the aroma off our skin and slept well that night. They watched a movie in Papa's pickup on the way and the way back, no sleep just a bunch of giggling in the back seat.
We saw this turtle go in our pond shortly after we moved in. In '93 a large turtle like this went down our ditch in front of our farm. We made the comment at that time that he was probably on the way to the pond. The construction crew has been on the lookout for this turtle because they eat fish. Well the other day Matt, one of the guys working shot it. He weighed 15 pounds and measured 27 inches from head to end of tail. I wasn't kidding when I toledthem they weren't finished till the turtle was out of there. They were working on the deck at the time. Our tyvec siding has been replace with real siding and the deck is almost finished. Matt came inside yesterday and finished up some loose ends. They are waiting for a few pieces to finish up the deck and they will be out of here. Kind of a bitter/sweet time, we are going to miss those guys. They have been so pleasant to have around. We are very happy with the finished product...it is working out quite well.

We finished up decorating the farmhouse bedroom and were very anxious to show Rick's parents. We couldn't get dad to come out of there, he was reminiscing with Brandyn and Rick. He loves to share his stories about the "good ole' days." We captured some old photos of both our families and put them behind windows that came out of the old farowing shed. Below the windows is an old door from the farm house. The rocking chair we tongue oiled and many years ago we got it dipped to strip it down. Mom was rocked as a baby in this chair. It had wires and nails holding it together. It means a lot to all of us along with all the other old things we have in our farmhouse bedroom. Come and take a look for yourself sometime. We have a few other pieces of furniture, a butter churn, reading books, Rick's bronze baby shoes, and a few other things that finish the room off making it quite unique. Everything we have comes from our families, our heritage which means so much to both of us.
Grandma Nettie and the girls looking at the old kitty very carefully.

We have been very careful not to hurt all our young fish. With all the rains and the fertilizer on the yard we have had a terrible time keeping the pong algae free. Rick is treating the pond again after yesterday all of it went on down the crick.

No matter how warm it is we have waited for this deck and we are going to enjoy it now. Myles seems to love being out there as well as we do. There's not much extra time these days but we do go out a few minutes before bed at night.
