9.7.09 The attic

Lake woke up from his nap, heard the skid loader and before we could get his shoes on he was in the loader with Papa (barefoot). He wasn't going to miss out on anything more.

We have started the packing process. On Labor Day we labored over the extra storage we had above the garage. I thought that was a really good thing that we had all that room up there to "store stuff". We went through grade school days, yes of Rick and myself, old b/w photos of our parents, their dating years, letter jackets, scrapbooks, wedding dresses, art and writing papers of us and our kids, antique adding machines, erector sets, jon in the pan, toys, clothes, and then there was empty boxes and more empty boxes and more empty boxes. When you have collections empty boxes MUST be kept is what we were told. So we vacuumed the boxes, vacuumed tractors, took boxes apart, vacuumed more of the box and set the tractor in place, bought storage boxes, made a list and shrink wrapped them all up, set on a pallet and put them in the trailer. We threw away lots, burned even more and took pickup loads to a second hand store out of town. I can not tell you how exciting it was to get the attic swept and shut the door. I told Brandyn NEVER put anything up there and one day they will thank me very much for telling them if they listen, not sure I would have.

We have a trailer on the yard...

We are hoping to store all our home in the trailer and find a mattress and a bathroom somewhere.

The garage was so full, both vehicles had to stay in the shop for 1 whole week. It took a lot of time to go through everything once we got it down from the attic. A lot of stuff went straight to the fire but then we had to sort out the rest.

Now we can get the Outlook in at at least.
It is a HUGE relief to be this far, the rest will probably happen during harvest when it rains. I have 15 closets cleaned out, the large hutch, the office, and the furnace room. I had some help from Vicki cleaning out the furnace room and a few large closets upstairs. If I remember right it was a lot more fun helping her move than her helping me, funny how that works.

  1. I'm sure it feels good to have made this much progress. I read this & it's hard to believe we're doing this but we couldn't be more grateful. We are SO excited to be in our new home!
